PLOT SUMMARY
A reporter and the daughter of a missing scientist team up with a holiday
making couple to investigate the strange happenings on the island of
Matoul. There they find Dr Menard struggling to stem the tide of zombies
that are over-running the island.
CAPSULE REVIEW
A cheap knock off of Romero's Dawn
of the Dead (1978) that proves to be a lot more
fun than the original. Grungy zombies, an irritating soundtrack, deadly
earnest performances and a great gothic atmosphere all combine to create
the quintessential Italian zombie movie. Very silly but huge fun.

The theatrical version was released with many cuts, but the first video
release, on the earlier incarnation of Vipco, arrived uncut. Sadly,
the 1984 Video Recordings Act soon put paid to that and the original
issue vanished, to be replaced some years later by Vipco in their second
incarnation, with a copy of the theatrical print. An uncut version was
submitted to the British Board of Film Classification in August 1999.
This time only 23 seconds were cut, all taken from the infamous eye
piercing scene and the subsequent shots of the zombies eating Paola
Menard's body.
