PLOT SUMMARY

FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully investigate the Bureau's most baffling cases, the X-Files. Along the way, they encounter all manner of ghosts, monsters and psychopaths and find themselves increasingly embroiled in a complex conspiracy involving factions of the US government's attempts to forge an alliance with invading aliens.

CAPSULE REVIEW

When it was good, The X-Files was among the top 10 shows of all time - the stand-alone "monster of the week" shows were genuinely scary, the conspiracy arc made sense and production values were high. As the series wore on, things started to unravel - somewhere around seasons 6 or 7, the writers clearly ran out of ideas and the conspiracy disappeared up its own backside. Only the consistently glossy look and the wonderful Gillian Anderson made the later seasons at all bearable. But those first 5 or so years are remarkable and helped to change the face of US telefantasy.
