PLOT SUMMARY
Truman Burbank's life is
turned upside down when he gradually comes to realise
that his entire life has been a sham. His apparently
normal life is in fact the plot of the world's most
popular television show and the seaside town he live sin
is the largest television set ever constructed. Now that
he's uncovered the truth, Truman determines to find a way
out into the 'real' world...
CAPSULE REVIEW
For a big-budget
Hollywood blockbuster, this was an unusual and
intelligent offering - more Philip K. Dick than Jerry
Bruckheimer. Carrey surprised his detractors by turning
in a commendably complex performance far removed from his
usual low-brow knockabout routines. It lacks the savage
satire of The Prisoner (1967) - with
which it shares many concerns - but it's still more
subversive than any comparable Hollywood film of its day.
