While on a mission against Federation rebels the Maquis in the Badlands, the USS Voyager is thrown through a space warp and ends up millions of light years from home. The surviving Federation and Maquis crews join forces and try to figure out how they're going to get home while exploring the hitherto uncharted depths of space.

The fifth Star Trek TV series is a huge disappointment after the excellent The Next Generation [1987 - 1994] and the flawed but interesting Deep Space Nine [1993 - 1999]. Voyager's chief problem is that we've seen it all before [tough-talking captain, tetchy doctor, Vulcan science officer] and it's not done particularly well here. Things get better from Season Four when the Borg Seven of Nine joins the crew, but it never really manages to do anything outstanding or even original with its basic premise.
