SUMMARY

A stable stable wormhole is discovered near the planet Bajor by Benjamin Sisko, commander of Deep Space Nine, a former Cardassian space station now in the hands of the Federation. The native Bajorans believe the wormhole to be the Celestial Temple of the Prophets Sisko is hailed as the Emissary. Exploration reveals that the wormhole leads to the Gamma Quadrant on the far side of the galaxy, home to The Dominion, a confederation led by a race of shapeshifters. The Dominion use the wormhole to invade the Alpha Quadrant, overrunning>the Romulans and Cardassians, leaving only the Federation and the Klingon Empire to stave off total defeat. A devastating war is brewing...

CAPSULE REVIEW

Although it started well and was a refreshing change from the established Star Trek way (this crew were boldly going... nowhere in particular), Deep Space Nine soon became bogged down in trying to chase J. Michael Straczynski's similarly themed but infinitely better Babylon 5 (1994 – 1998). In the end, like its main characters, it had nowhere to go though along the way there were some fabulous episodes and great performances.
