PLOT SUMMARY

New York constable Ichabod Crane is sent to the remote town of Sleepy Hollow where the population is apparently being slaughtered by a decapitating headless horseman. Crane struggles to unravel the mystery in the face of his own strict adherence to scientific logic and the villagers superstition.

CAPSULE REVIEW

Burton's paen to Hammer horror is only a qualified success, but where it does work it works magnificently. The stunning photography and design are the real stars of the show, though Burton's patented gothic style carries us through many of the rough patches. An interesting experiment that doesn't quite make the grade.
