PLOT SUMMARY

Scanner Peter Drak wreaks psychokinetic havoc in an amusement arcade and is arrested and turned over to the Morse Neurological Research Institute, a shady medical centre researching the scanner phenomenon. Peter is the latest recipient of Dr Morse's new scanner control drug, F2 which succeeds in calming their anti-social outbursts, but turns them into mindless junkies. Meanwhile trainee vet David is beginning to experience the first signs of becoming a scanner...

CAPSULE REVIEW

The first of a series of not-as-good-as-the-original sequels to David Cronenberg's 1981 production, this is at least the marginally better of the bunch by virtue of a handful of decent set pieces, capably handled by director Christian Duguay. It's a bit long winded with a surfeit of sub-plots and diversions distracting away from the main thrust of the narrative, and it lacks the dark moral undertones of Cronenberg's film. But it's entertaining enough, adding nothing new to a well worn plot but managing some effective suspense scenes and one or two moments of visual inventiveness. (Full Review)
