"(A) series of highly coloured adventures including battles with
prehistoric monsters, fanged men, giant fish and the like. Subject at
times may prove rather frightening to younger members of audience, but
thrill and exploitation angles undeniable. Buster Crabbe makes a virile
Flash and Jean Rogers has thankless role of Dale. Good example of serial
entertainment."

"(W)ith its unbridled imagination and no-nonsense efficiency, Flash
Gordon captures the very essence of the American comics in a way the
more recent adaptation of Batman failed to do. Perhaps at the close
none but the brave will be left steadfastly booing the treacherous Ming
and cheering Flash Gordon as he leaps once more to the aid of the distressed
damsel ("steady, Dale!"), but even so this Thirties folly
serves as a wistful and periodically exhilarating reminder of an age
of innocence long lost." - David McGillivray
