Ren, the young son of a lighthouse keeper, rescues a strange man from the rocks beneath his home and learns that he used to be an aide to a king - Ren's real father... The man gives Ren a magical compass that leads him to a dragon who tells him that he can only claim his rightful place on his farther's throne by tracking down the Thirteen Treasures of Rule. But the evil pirate Bloth and his crew are also after the treasure and Ren and the friends he picks up along the way must constantly battle bothe the pirates and time as they race to find the treasure before their world is enveloped by the mysterious Dark Water...
