PLOT SUMMARY
Grace and her two young
children move into a mansion on one of the British
channel islands at the close of the Second World War. The
children are victims of a disease that leaves them
vulnerable if exposed to direct sunlight and are forced
to live in a strange twilight world. But before long,
Grace comes to realise that the family and their serving
staff are not the only ones in the house, and that others
are haunting them...
CAPSULE REVIEW
The best of the turn of
the millennium ghost stories, with a fantastic
performance by Nicole Kidman as the fragile heroine, at
least one industrial strength scare and a genuinely
chilly atmosphere. The story is hardly original (it
echoes that of Voices (1973)) but the
telling is outstanding and the direction is first rate.
