BIOGRAPHY

Though born in Colorado, Fincher was raised in Oregon and, later, in Marin County, California. He was determined to work in the film industry from an early age and at the age of 18, he joined the special effects house Korty Films. Having learned his trade in visual effects, Fincher moved to Industrial Light and Magic where he perfected his skills from 1981 - 1983.

But the lure of directing soon proved too strong and Fincher left ILM to start work as a TV commercials director. He signed on with the N. Lee Lacy agency and soon graduated to directing some of the most innovative and exciting rock videos of the late 1980s.

In 1987, Fincher teamed up with fellow promo and commercials directors Dominic Sena, Greg Gold and Nigel Dick to form the successful Propaganda production house. Five years later, he got his first chance at a feature when he was offered the third episode in the prestigious Alien franchise. Unfortunately, studio politicking and a protracted period in development hell left Fincher high and dry and Alienł was far from the calling card Fincher might have hoped for.

Undaunted, Fincher bounced back in 1995 with the superb Se7en, the film that finally showed what he was capable of. He hasn't looked back since, making the under-rated The Game (1996) and Fight Club (1999), one of the most audacious and courageous movies to come from a mainstream Hollywood studio in the 1990s.
