PLOT SUMMARY
Software employee and sometime hacker Thomas 'Neo' Anderson finds his
world turned upside down when he learns the truth about 'reality' -
it's all an illusion, an elaborate artificial reality known as The Matrix.
Anderson teams up with an underground resistance movement dedicated
to liberating humanity from the thrall of the machines and learns that
he may be The One, the saviour who will overthrow the computers and
their deadly agents.
CAPSULE REVIEW
Coming straight out of the blue, The Matrix transformed action cinema
with its blistering visuals, mind-bending plot and seamless blending
of western effects blockbuster and Asian martial arts movie. One of
the most densely textured films in decades (the wealth of detail is
too much take in at a single viewing), it threw down a formidable gauntlet,
challenging the moribund Hollywood action genre to come up with something
new and original. In years to come, this wholly remarkable film will
be seen as one of the great turning points in the history of popular
cinema.
