SUMMARY
Trelkovsky rents an apartment in France and learns that previous
tenant committed suicide. He starts to suspect that his new landlord
and neighbours are manipulating him, trying to make him kill himself
too. But how much of this is real, and how much of it is in Trelkovsky's
imagination?
CAPSULE REVIEW
Polanski's under-rated masterpiece, Le locataire is a strange,
upsetting film whose horrors are entirerly psychological. Revolving
around fantastic performances from Polanski and the ever stunning
Isabelle Adjani and steeped in a dank and miserable atmosphere, the
film is a triumph of melancholia, a downbeat and oppressive exercise
in paranoia and oppression.
