PLOT SUMMARY
Alien scientist Dr Jumba Jookiba illegally creates the highly aggressive
and all but indestructible Experiment #626. Jookiba is sentenced to
jail by the Grand Council of the Galactic Federation but 626 escapes
and flees to Earth where he crashlands in Hawaii. He is befriended by
Elvis loving orphan Lilo who adopts him as a pet and names him Stitch.
As Earth scientists and alien forces search for the runaway, Lilo and
Stitch become inseperable - not even allowing huge Man in Black turned
social worker Cobra Bubbles to seperate them.
CAPSULE REVIEW
Although there are times when it verges on the mawkish and sentimental,
for the most part Lilo & Stitch is a refreshingly
different take on the traditional Disney animated feature. Walt probably
wouldn't have approved of the single parent disfunctional family at
the core of the story (though the denouement would fit easily with his
philosophies), but the sensitive and non-judgmental approach shows that
Disney really is capable of moving with the times. Strong, believable
characters, a justifiable excuse for those musical interludes so beloved
by Disney and some genuinely hilarious moments add up to a hugely enjoyable
film that retains Disney's traditional production values, but drags
them happily into the 21st century.
