Demonic Toys [1992]

Although it returns to the theme scurrying small special effects creatures of many other Charles Band produced quickies, this loose knock off of Child's Play is a surprisingly decent little movie, with clever special effects that overleap awkward initial exposition to deliver a neat, suspenseful, claustrophobic chiller. Pregnant cop Tracy Scoggins pursues a pair of arms dealers who have just killed her partner into a warehouse full of discontinued toys, and a wounded crook bleeds onto the floor, reactivating the stillborn spirit of a demon who animates a selection of the toys as a warm up for possessing the heroine's unborn child. The eponymous creatures include an especially malevolent baby doll, a reptilian clown jack in the box, a feral teddy bear and a zap gun wielding plastic robot.
