SUMMARY

Hamlet assumes the throne of Denmark on the death of his father. The ghost of his father appears and claims that his brother Claudius - now married to Hamlet's mother - was his killer and urges Hamlet to avenge his death. The young prince embarks on an elaborate scheme to determine the truth but succeeds only in killing the father of his beloved Ophelia and driving her to suicide. Events escalate out of control, ultimately threatening not only Hamlet and his family but also the whole of Denmark.
