Arcos] SUMMARY
The sadistic Greta del Pino rules over a 'correction
centre' for women in the jungles of South America who are there to
be cured of their 'sexual deviations'. Abby, the sister of one of
the inmates persuades Dr Arcos to smuggle her into the prison where
she experiences at first hand the appalling degradations inflicted
by Greta and her henchmen. But Abby leads teh prisoners in a revolt
which has terrible consequences for the hated Greta. CAPSULE REVIEW
The most shocking and outrageous of Franco's women in prison films.
It may not be as obviously offensive as its Italian counterparts,
but Franco's claustrophobic direction and unflinching depiction of
Greta's sadism make it an uncomfortable watch. It's possibly Franco's
single most disturbing film, with few of the tedious zooms that marred
his other work. Only Dyanne Thorne's campy performance as Greta seems
out of place in an otherwise bleak and nihilistic film. AVAILABILITY
