PLOT SUMMARY

Godzilla's home island has been destroyed - Little Godzilla is missing but Godzilla himself is on the rampage and something is clearly very wrong. He's glowing an alarming bright red and scientists soon realise that the nuclear energy inside him is running out of control - Godzilla is threatening to meltdown, taking the whole world with him. As the authorities struggle to contain him, a new threat appears - a horde of creatures created from a combination of Godzilla cells and the oxygen-destroyer weapon that killed the original Godzilla have risen from Tokyo Bay and are attacking the city...

CAPSULE REVIEW

After the disastrous Gojira vs Supesugojira (1994), this was a breath of fresh air. The final scenes are remarkably poignant (true fans will never be able to watch it with dry eyes!), the battle scenes are wonderful and the human cast more than hold their own against the monsters. A fitting climax to the heisei series that restores Godzilla to its destructive best before bringing the series to a respectful end.
