Shortly after the discovery of a 60
million year old rock, Godzilla reappears off the coast of Nemuro
and lays waste to the city. The rock turns out to house an ancient
UFO which is released after an encounter with Godzilla. The craft
then transforms into the monster Orga for the final showdown with
Godzilla. CAPSULE REVIEW
Following the travesty that was the Hollywood take on Godzilla
(1998), Toho relaunched the franchise and showed the upstart Americans
how it should be done. It's far from the best the series has to offer,
but compared to Emmerich's disastrous offering, it's a masterpiece.
It's deeply flawed - the budget was too low to accomodate the effects,
the ending is rather embarrassing and the monster rampages are looking
rather tired at times - but it looks great and there's still plenty
to enjoy here. AVAILABILITY
