Il gatto nero (1989) Country of Origin: Italy CREDITS PRODUCTION SCRIPT DIRECTION PHOTOGRAPHY EDITING AND POST-PRODUCTION MUSIC MAKE UP AND COSTUMES SPECIAL EFFECTS MISCELLANEOUS CAST PLOT SUMMARY A team of film-makers making a horror movie accidentally revive the witch Levana, one of the dreaded Three Mothers, who is also the main character in their film. Levana plans to spread evil throughout the world and the only one who can stop her is actress Anne, who is playing Levana in the movie. CAPSULE REVIEW Although Cozzi manages some impressively atmospheric scenes, most of them cribbed directly from his mentor Dario Argento, Il gatto nero doesn't really amount to much. Performances are stiff and unconvincing, and the climax is badly mismanaged. As an unauthorised addition to Argento's Three Mothers series it leaves a lot to be desired.
