SUMMARY

In the small Norwegian town of Flåklypa, bicycle repairman Reodor Felgen and his assistants Solan and Ludvig, are sponsored by the wealthy oil sheik Ben Redic Fy Fazan to build a car to take part in the annual Flåklypa Grand Prix. However, there are others who have a vested interest in seeing to it the car, Il Tempo Gigante, doesn't even take part...

CAPSULE REVIEW

That this marvellous puppet animation isn't as widely available as it should be is nothing short of a crime. Technically brilliant and crammed with more invention and wit than most live-action films can even dream of, Flåklypa Grand Prix is by turns hilarious, exciting and seriously strange, populated with some of the oddest characters ever seen in a kid's film. The pod-racing scene from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) owes a huge unacknowledged debt to the climactic race scene here. Next to the work of Aardman Animation, this is the best puppet animation ever released.
