SUMMARY

While his wife and kids are away for the weekend, New York lawyer Dan Gallagher has a passionate affair with one of his colleagues, Alex. But she proves reluctant to accept that it was just a fling and begins to stalk and menace Gallagher and his family, trying to terrorise him into resuming their affair.

CAPSULE REVIEW

Slick, glossy and effective it may be but Fatal Attraction never really convinces anyone that it's anything more than a big-budget slasher movie. On those terms, it succeeds as well as many of its better low budget counterparts, though the spurious attempt to justify itself as some sort of feminist tract fools no-one. Adrian Lyne works the meager plot for all the tension and suspense it can muster, and the cast are more than adequate in largely unlikable roles. Like The Silence of the Lambs (1990), Fatal Attraction is a horror film for people who don't usually watch horror films - the rest of us will have seen it all before, most notably in the far superior Play Misty For Me (1971).
