SUMMARY

In the small Wisconsin town of Delta Glen, teenage kids are found wandering the woods, stripped to their underwear, delirious with fear and with the words HE (or SHE) IS ONE written on their backs in marker pen. Mulder and Scully are called in by the local sheriff who believes the kids are being possessed and suspects the involvement of a loopy vegetarian fundamentalist cult, the Red Museum. But their investigations reveal that the victims all have dangerously high levels of scopolamine in their blood as well as trace elements of other potentially toxic substances. This, coupled with Mulder's discovery that the Red Museum leader Richard Odin was once a disgraced doctor, leads the agents to arrest Odin. However, the truth is partially revealed when a local ex-farmer takes Mulder and Scully to the site of an experimental cattle farm where the cows are being injected with a growth hormone...

CAPSULE REVIEW

Red Museum saw The X Files back on track again after the setback of Firewalker and contributing more crumbs of information relating to the overall story arc. Superbly directed by series newcomer Phelps, Red Museum may lack the powerful performances and razor edged dialogue of previous episodes but the sheer complexity of the plot and liberal use of red herrings (all that stuff about walk-ins, demonic possession and such like) makes it one of the most intellectually challenging and gripping stories so far.
