SUMMARY
Mulder and Scully are contacted by a former paramour of Mulder's, British
cop Phoebe Green, "the terror of Scotland Yard", in the States
to protect a visiting Parliamentarian. An alarming number of British
politicians and aristocrats have recently been put to death by a serial
killer whose unusual kink is that he sets fire to his victims. The arrival
in Cape Cod of Sir Malcolm Marsden and his family brings the pyrotechnic
maniac to the attentions of the X Files duo and Mulder must confront
his own personal demons (an intense fear of fire) in order to bring
the killer to book.
CAPSULE REVIEW
Despite a tendendy towards the usual Hollywood stereotyping of the
British characters, Fire is generally wittily and intelligently
plotted. Sheppard is excellent as the deranged killer Cecil Lively and
Duchovny is given a chance to shine in a story that fleshes out his
character considerably. Scully seems rather less sceptical this time
out, though her reasoning for the killer's behaviour and modus operandi
are more pragmatic than Mulder's. How much her reluctance to dismiss
Mulder's ideas are due to the jealousy arousing presence of the delectable
Phoebe are unclear, though one suspects it plays a prominent role. (Full
