SUMMARY

12-year-old Conradin returns from Burma after his parents are killed and he's sent to live with his strict aunt in the Scottish Highlands. Deeply unhappy and isolated, Conradin falls ill and doctors claim that he only has a few years keft to live. For comfort, he turns to Sredni Vashtar, a vicious god-creature that seems to lurk in the garden shed. But is Sredni Vashtar real, or just a figment of an over-active imagination?
