SUMMARY

While continuing their aimless drift through the cosmos, the Red Dwarf is waylaid by a Space Corps Holoship, "ships of no mass or volume, able to travel as supra light particles". The crew, legendary for their arrogance, appeal to Rimmer's deranged sense of honour and duty [the fact that they indulge in regular bouts of recreational sex also helps] and he opts to throw in his lot with them. A mind patch gives him the intellectual prowess to go head to head with one of the holoship's crew [the only way in is "dead man's boots"], not realising that his cheating will lead to the termination of his opponent - his newfound love, Nirvana Crane.

CAPSULE REVIEW

The hit-and-miss Season Five kicked off with what would hitherto seemed impossible - Rimmer falls in love, gets his end away and learns the meaning of self-sacrifice and commitment. Sadly, their vehicle for exploring all this is a tad tedious and rather too reminiscent of the previous year's opener, Camille.
