PLOT SUMMARY
The TARDIS suffers a strange power drain and The Doctor is forced to
materialise it on the planet Virtis. The travelers find themselves caught
up in the struggle by the butterfly-like Menoptera to free their world
from the parasitic invader the Animus which is covering the planet with
a web-like structure. The Doctor and his companions join forces with
both the Menoptera and the planet's other species, the Optera, to battle
the Animus.
CAPSULE REVIEW
At the time, this must have been a jaw-dropping viewing experience
- audacious in its ambition, it was the most effects intensive Doctor
Who story thus far and there had, quite simply, been nothing
like it on British TV before. Today, it looks dated and, at times, rather
comical, but the story holds up exceptionally well and. A hugely impressive
endeavour and a landmark in Who history.
