PLOT SUMMARY

School teachers Ian and Barbara are puzzled by one of their pupils, the unusually intelligent Susan. Following her home one night they find themselves in a junkyard where they meet a strange old man who not only claims to be Susan's grandfather, but also to be not of this Earth...

CAPSULE REVIEW

A notably scarier version of the opening story than the version eventually broadcast, creator Sydney Newman felt that this cut was too dark and mysterious and ordered the retakes that we saw in November 1963. It's restoration in the mid-1990s was a welcome addition to the Doctor Who canon and showed a glimpse of what might have been.
