PLOT SUMMARY
By 1997, the island of Manhattan has been turned into a maximum security
prison for the worst criminals in the USA. When the President's aircraft
crashes on the island and he's taken hostage by the self-styled Duke
of New York, the authorities send war hero turned criminal Snake Plissken
in to get him out.
CAPSULE REVIEW
A fun premise doesn't really carry the film for its full length. Great
performances help and there's certainly plenty going on, but the whole
never really gels, the film coming across as a series of vignettes rather
than as a cohesive story. It was hugely influential though (particularly
on the Italians) and Kurt Russell's tongue-in-cheek hard man routine
is fantastic which certainly makes it worth a look.
