SUMMARY
When an ageing heiress is murdered by her greedy
husband out to get her money, it leads to a whole series of increasingly
brutal killings. Relatives and family friends descend on the woman's
house with their own agendas, most of which involve the wholesale slaughter
of their rivals.
CAPSULE REVIEW
Hugely influential (just look at Halloween
(1978) and, more pertinently, Friday the 13th (1980)
for proof of that), Ecologia del delitto is one of
Bava's best latter day efforts, a relentlessly grisly saga of familial
in-fighting and mass murder. After the lacklustre Cinque
bambole per la luna d'agosto
(1970) it was a major return to form for Bava, full of visual invention
and sick humour. It's misanthropy (there isn't a single likeable character
in the whole film) paved the way for his bleak and hope-sapping masterpiece
Cani arrabbiati (1974).
