PLOT SUMMARY
The Duc de Richleau discovers that the astronomical
society run by his protégé Simon is a front for a devil-worshipping
cult led by Mocata, a powerful and charismatic Satanist. The Duc,
aided by Rex Van Ryn, battle to save both Simon and another young
initiate, Tanith, from the Satanists and the terrifying apparitions
conjured up by Mocata.
CAPSULE REVIEW
The first and by far the best of Hammer's Dennis Wheatley
adaptations, The Devil Rides Out benefits from the
magnificent performances from Lee and Grey and some of Fisher's most
memorable set-pieces. Some of the shoddy effects let it down, as do
some bland supporting performances, but this isn't enough to prevent
the film from being one of Hammer's most unnerving and riveting productions.
