SUMMARY

Andy is reported dead, killed in action while fighting in Vietnam. His family are understandably devastated by the news. But then one day Andy comes home - there are no explanations for where he's been nor he found his way back to the States and for his overjoyed family, none are needed. But the Andy who comes home from war isn't the same young man they new - in fact, he may no longer be human at all...

CAPSULE REVIEW

A haunting reworking of The Monkey's Paw that once again confirms Bob Clark as one of the great unsung horror directors. Like Romero, Clark takes an interest in elements other than the horror, here painfully exposing the agony of a family torn apart by a war they don't understand. It's such a intensely personal approach that makes his work, and Deathdream in particular, so moving and devastating. That he went on to make the dreadful Porkey's (1981) and the truly execrable Baby Geniuses (1999) is simply heartbreaking.
