PLOT SUMMARY

A young student, Nan Barlow, travels to the small New England town of Whitewood to research her thesis on witchcraft. But she hasn't been there for long before strange things start to happen and it becomes clear that she's fallen foul of a coven of witches searching for a new sacrifice.

CAPSULE REVIEW

An excellent and quietly understated chiller, brilliantly directed by a director who would later carve a niche for himself on American television. The monochrome photography combines with the impressive sets to create a claustrophobic feeling which adds to the sinister ambience. The cast are first rate, but the film belongs to Moxey whose confident direction is the real star here.
