PLOT SUMMARY
Student Helen Lyle is writing a thesis about local legends and myths
in Chicago. She learns of the legend of the Candyman, a one-armed supernatural
killer who appears if you look into a mirror and say his name five times.
Helen doesn't believe it - until she discovers a series of brutal killings
in a nearby housing project...
CAPSULE REVIEW
Though it never attained the status afforded to Clive
Barker's own Hellraiser
(1987), Bernard Rose's adaptation of the author's Candyman
(1992) is just as impressive and unnerving an experience and deserves
a better reputation than it currently enjoys. It is, without question,
the most affecting genre film of the early 1990s, one of the very few
bright spots in a genre that had become increasingly moribund after
Re-Animator (1985) and before it was revitalised by the likes of The
Sixth Sense (1999) and The Blair Witch Project (1999). (Full
