PLOT SUMMARY
After casting out his original, less-than-perfect
male creation, Baron Frankenstein creates a new, seemingly perfect female
creature. The male monster ends up in a circus where he's befriended
by an intellectual dwarf and together they plot revenge on the Baron.
When his new friend is killed by the circus' evil owners the monster
ends up back at Castle Frankenstein, driven wild with passion when he
catches the Baron trying to bed what should have been his bride...
CAPSULE REVIEW
One of the great mysteries of the British film industry
will always be why producer Victor Drai thought it necessary to remake
The Bride of Frankenstein
(1935) with a badly thought out feminist twist and one of the biggest
miscasting coups in cinema history, giving the role of the Baron to
former Police singer Sting and that of the female creation to Flashdancer
Jennifer Beals, neither of whom had the acting experience or talent
necessary to pull the roles off. The only one to come out of this sorry
mess looking good is Clancy Brown, whose performance as the monster
is both sensitive and compelling. But as the narrative is irritatingly
split in two, alternating back and forth between two mis-matched couples,
Brown and the annoying Rappaport and Sting and Beals, with the result
that Brown has little to do and Sting has way too much.
