PLOT SUMMARY
With
the galaxy at war with itself, a last ditch effort is made to restore
peace in the shape of the Babylon Project, a plan to build a kind of
United Nations in space. The first four of the Babylon stations are
lost or destroyed, but Babylon 5 endures and becomes the heart of concerted
efforts to bring interplanetary wars to an end. But various factions
are intent on prolonging the conflict, including the mysterious Shadows,
the ancient original rulers of the galaxy who have woken from their
centuries long hibernation...
CAPSULE REVIEW
A quite astonishing achievement, more so given that
the majority of the episodes were written by just one man, the show's
creator J. Michael Straczynski who had the basic backbone for the five
year series planned well before production began. The forward planning
gives the show a depth and texture that was entirely lacking from similar
shows. The result is one of the most remarkable and rewarding genre
TV shows ever made.
